Print Revival by Bonnie Christine Workshop

2 weeks ago I have been learning surface design, and I must say it has broadened my world. Not only did I learn how to make patterns but how it can open opportunities for me.

I should start off where this all begins. So I have been doing a lot of art challenges for February and just been creating art this new year and then I found an Instagram ad for pattern print called Pattern Revival by Bonnie Christine. I thought why not I don't know how to make pattern print but I do know Adobe Illustrator, might be a good experience. And man was I right.

I should also mention that since January I have seen and heard about making repeating patterns all over my Instagram and have been very intrigue on how to make it into a career. So I was excited for this workshop that started on February 11 and ended on the 16th. So kinda short but still worth it.

I learned so much from the workshop, not only did I finally learn the technique of making a repeating pattern, which was a game-changer for me, but how to even make it in the business of surface design. I even went and got her amazing booklet that shares over 400 companies that require surface designers which helps me get started once I have a portfolio put together.

So let me start with how the workshop went, first she sent everyone an 8am prerecorded video to start your day off then went live for a lesson adjacent to the morning video around 2pm Central, and after you get homework to work on. It was a lot of fun and very creative, I also loved sharing it on their community app called Circle. I got great feedback on my artwork as well and it gave me more confidence to continue with surface design.

The only downside and this has nothing to do with the workshop, is the immersion class she has that dives into more of surface design but it was kinda costly for me that I could not pay for it even with a 6-month plan (got too many bills and had to fix up my car at the time). I would highly recommend it to anyone who does want to go into Surface Design because there is so much more to it and how she set up her modules sounds so helpful, not to mention how she teaches you how to use Adobe Illustrator especially for beginners.

To finish my final thought I am so happy I took the chance and joined this workshop to learn surface design and make pattern prints to possibly sell to clients. I'm excited for what it holds for me in the future and hoping this is how I finally get into a creative career and get the creative freedom I've been seeking.
